The Kindness Closet’s second annual Kind in the Vines on October 8, 2025 brought together more than 120 donors, volunteers, sponsors, and community supporters for a meaningful night at Davesté Vineyards — and the impact exceeded every expectation.

While the vineyard setting was beautiful and the atmosphere festive, the heart of this event was always the mission: ensuring everyone in our community has access to the basic hygiene products they need to live with dignity.

Why this work matters

Today, more than one-third of Iredell County residents struggle to afford everyday essentials like shampoo, soap, deodorant, laundry detergent, and menstrual care items — none of which are covered by government assistance. The need is widespread, often invisible, and deeply connected to health, school attendance, and self-confidence.

As North Carolina’s only Hygiene Bank, The Kindness Closet works with schools, shelters, clinics, and community partners to provide free hygiene products to those who need them most. Kind in the Vines helps fuel this critical work.

Highlights from the evening

Guests enjoyed an evening filled with connection and purpose, including:

  • Local wine, food, and live music shared among 120+ attendees

  • Winery tours with winemaker, Meg Tipton, and a vibrant silent auction

  • Mission moments that connected generosity directly to impact

  • A hands-on service project packing hygiene kits for local distribution

One of the most powerful moments of the night was the hands-on hygiene kit packing experience, generously sponsored by Lake Norman Lions Club. Volunteers rolled up their sleeves to pack kits that will go directly to children, families, and individuals in our community — turning celebration into immediate action.

The impact you made

Because of the generosity in the room — and continued support after the event — Kind in the Vines raised $45,847, surpassing our original $40,000 goal.

At the time of the event, we had already reached $23,000, and additional gifts in the days that followed helped us go even further.

So far this year:

  • 150,000 hygiene relief products have been distributed across Western North Carolina

  • 240,000 additional products have been distributed in Iredell County alone

This level of impact is only possible because of supporters who believe that hygiene is a basic human need — not a luxury.

Kind in the Vines is more than an event. It’s a reminder of what happens when a community comes together with compassion, purpose, and generosity.

Every packed kit, every auction bid, and every conversation under the vines helped move us closer to a future where health, hygiene, and dignity are within reach for everyone.

To our sponsors, donors, volunteers, partners, and guests: thank you for helping us make kindness contagious. We are deeply grateful — and we can’t wait to celebrate with you again under the vines.
